Publishing closes the loop
A published article now submits its URL for indexing and adds its focus keyword to rank tracking, on by default.
Publishing used to be the last step Strategist helped with. The article went to your CMS, and indexing and rank tracking waited for you to set them up by hand. Now the publish worker finishes the job.
What happens after publish
When an article publishes, two things follow automatically:
- The new URL is submitted for indexing through the same quota scheduler as a manual submission. The scheduler paces the work with your daily per-engine quotas, so a batch never trips a rate limit.
- The article's focus keyword is added to rank tracking. The keyword appears in Performance from its first tracked day, once. A second article with the same keyword adds nothing.
Where to watch it
- Publish › Coverage lists every URL with its index status. The new URL appears within one scheduler pass. Switch to the history view to see each submission and the answer it got, per search engine.
- Performance shows the focus keyword's position next to your other tracked keywords, with its trend from day one.
The switch
The behaviour is on by default. To change it, open the watch settings on the Publish › Coverage toolbar and turn off After publish: submit URL, track keyword. The setting belongs to the site, so two sites in one workspace can behave differently.
Quotas still apply
Automatic submissions draw from the same daily quota as manual ones, per engine and per credential. Sites that share one Google service account share one budget, as before. When a quota runs out, the scheduler spreads the remaining URLs across the following days instead of dropping them.
Why it matters
A new page reaches the index sooner when you tell the search engine about it, instead of waiting for the next crawl. A focus keyword tracked from its first day gives you a true before-and-after for the article, not a trend that starts weeks late. Both now happen without a checklist.
